Codes of Conduct

We are aware of our positions of power within the suspension space and believe it is within our commitments to our community to name and acknowledge that power and consider how that power might be abused (even if unintentionally). Additionally, we believe with this power comes a higher level of responsibility and therefore a need to maintain a higher set of ethical standards.

Only members of the Divergent Denver Community Care Team (Rose, Kit, and Miss Alex) are allowed to restrict access to events or remove individuals from events. If anyone else tells you that you are not welcomed at a Divergent Denver event, please inform one of the Community Care Team immediately.

Group Organizer and Suspension Leads (OLs)
Code of Conduct

Group organizers are individuals responsible for organizing logistics related to this suspension event (reserving space, setting up suspension list, being part of the Community Care Team, etc.). The following rules also extend to visiting group leaders and organizers who run events within the suspension community.

A suspension lead is the person who has the primary responsibility for a suspension.

As this is a higher level of power, all aspects of the code of conduct for facilitators applies to OLs.

As well as:

  • OLs will abstain from participating in any decision making where there is a conflict of interest, whether that be personal or professional.

  • OLs will seek to mentor and support new leadership in order to facilitate power sharing and community involvement in the suspension community.

  • OLs will be aware of our position of power and the effects that may have on our interactions with community members.

    • With ongoing partners, facilitators will be aware of and take steps to mitigate how their positionality might affect consent and the ability of partners to feel they can revoke consent.

    • Facilitators may not engage in new intimate or sexual contact with community members or other facilitators for 7 days after a suspension event.

    • Facilitators may not engage in new intimate or sexual contact with suspendees for 21 days after a suspension event

    • If prior to an event, a facilitator and community member are aware of a potential desire to engage in new intimate or sexual contact between them, all parties that will be involved may let one of the community care team know prior to any facilitation and suspension to negate the 21 day ban on new intimate or sexual contact.

Facilitator Code of Conduct

A facilitator is anyone who is working on a suspension or coaching a suspendee, whether that be marking, piercing, clean hands, belaying, bio, or any other facet to allow the suspendee to take flight.

  • Facilitators will not use their position as a facilitator for personal gain

    • Example of personal gain: seeking intimate or sexual contact with new partners during or immediately following a suspension event

  • Facilitators will continually examine personal biases and blind spots. Facilitators commit to continuing their growth and personal deconstruction surrounding systems of oppression.

  • Facilitators will be aware of our position of power and the effects that may have on our interactions with community members.

    • With ongoing partners, facilitators will be aware of and take steps to mitigate how their positionality might affect consent and the ability of partners to feel they can revoke consent.

    • Facilitators may not engage in new intimate or sexual contact with community members or other facilitators for 3 days after a suspension event.

    • Facilitators may not engage in new intimate or sexual contact with suspendees for 14 days after a suspension event

    • If prior to an event, a facilitator and community member are aware of a potential desire to engage in new intimate or sexual contact between them, all parties that will be involved may let one of the community care team know prior to any facilitation and suspension to negate the 14 day ban on new intimate or sexual contact.

Community Member Code of Conduct

This is not an extensive list, but please let us know if there is something you feel would be important to include. Thank you!

  • This is a private event, and while it is a community event, Divergent Denver is not responsible for your access to the community. Any asshattery will result in being removed and possibly barring from future events.

  • Our events have a zero tolerance policy for any racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, fatphobia, etc. Any discriminatory behavior will result in your removal from the event immediately, with no refund!

  • If anything happens during an event that you are uncomfortable with, please do not directly intervene, but instead reach out to Miss Alex or a member of the community care team.

  • This is a sober event (not including nicotine, marijuana, and psychiatric medication). If you are not sober you will not participate.

    • Nicotine and marijuana are allowed to be used at the event in appropriate areas. Please only dispose of butts in the designated disposals and not in inside trash cans.

    • If you have a desire to use a mind altering substance during your suspension in a ritualized manner, this must be disclosed and negotiated with the group organizers prior to the event.

    • If you have questions or concerns about this rule, please talk to Miss Alex or one of the community care team.
